Rockslide Recap 2024
The 2024 Rockslide camp is in the books! 80 athletes and 17 coaches took part in the four day camp at the Kelowna Curling Club and Restaurant from August 8-11.
The camp included classroom sessions where athletes learn from world class instructors along with film study and curling trivia. Fitness and games outside to help train flexibility, hand-eye coordination and teamwork. On the ice, athletes participated in drills, game scenarios and of course some match play. Points were awarded for each of these events and the winner would be awarded the coveted ‘Golden Broom’.
In the end, it was coach Emily Bowles team that captured the prestigious award!
“I could not be prouder,” she said. My team brought the enthusiasm, energy, and love for the sport – and that’s what the Golden Broom is all about.”
Among the 80 young athletes participating was Louis, who said the camp was very helpful and hopes it will make him a better curler. Another camper taking part, Abraham said he learned how to be a better sweeper and enjoyed playing all the games on and off the ice.
Curl BC’s Youth and Education Coordinator and a coach at the camp, Paul Cseke talked about how special this year’s camp was.
“So many social connections were made or improved. Coupling that with witnessing so much skill development and fun was an experience to remember. We could not have done it without an amazing host club and an amazing coach team who are committed to enhancing youth curling.”
