Optimism for season ahead
With the announcement of BC’s four-step revamped Restart Plan, Curl BC is feeling optimistic about a more normal season in 2021-22.
As long as Covid-19 cases remain on a downward trend, hospitalizations continue to fall and people continue to get vaccinated, a return to a more normal season is in the cards.
A link to the PHO presentation given on May 25 is available here: https://news.gov.bc.ca/files/BCRestartPlan.pdf
BC will most likely be in Step 3 or 4 when most clubs open up in the fall.
The earliest date BC will move to Step 3 is July 1.
PHO guidance for Step 3*
- Masks are recommended in public indoor settings
- Engage in careful social contact
- If you or anyone in your family feels sick stay home and get tested immediately
*subject to change as health orders may differ for sports/activities/events
The earliest date that BC will move into Step 4 is Sept. 7, so if we can remain on course and hit this target, it will allow for curling clubs to open with fewer restrictions.
The criteria for moving to Step 4 is more than 70% of the 18+ population vaccinated with dose 1, along with low case counts and low Covid-19 hospitalizations.
PHO guidance for Step 4*
- Masks in public indoor settings a personal choice
- Normal social contact
- If you or anyone in your family feels sick stay home and get tested immediately
*subject to change as health orders may differ for sports/activities/events
Updated Covid-19 Safety Plans
Curling clubs will likely be asked to produce updated Covid-19 safety plans. The PHO is working with viaSport and the sport sector, including Curl BC, to come up with new guidelines. Once those guidelines have been produced, Curl BC will distribute an updated Return to Curling guide for 2021-22.
We expect some items to remain the same as last year’s guide, such as the need for waivers and health declarations, but some protocols may not be needed and others may change.
We will keep all member clubs updated as the plans get published.
