Team Young Wins 2025 Canadian Curling Club Men’s Championship
Curl BC is thrilled to congratulate Team Young from the Cranbrook Curling Club on capturing the 2025 Canadian Curling Club Men’s Championship. We also extend huge congratulations to Team Woodward from the Duncan Curling Club for finishing first in the Women’s Pool stage and securing a strong playoff finish.
What a Comeback
In the men’s gold-medal game, skip Mitch Young and his team staged a remarkable late surge to defeat veteran Mark Noseworthy and Team Newfoundland & Labrador by a score of 8–4.
Trailing 4–2 after four ends, the B.C. team—third/vice-skip Steve Tersmette, second Blair Jarvis, lead Kevin Hoglund, alternate Matthew Reynolds, and coach Chris Summers—remained composed and scored four points over the next three ends to take control of the match.
Young described the team’s mindset:
“We were in trouble for a bit, but we’d already won a couple of games in the round robin after being down. We held things together.”
He credited second Blair Jarvis for his constant positivity:
‘Blair kept saying, “We’re going to steal, steal, steal,” and that’s what we did.’”
Coming into the championship, Team Young kept expectations realistic.
“Our goal was to make the playoffs. We found our groove, kept communication up, and stuck together.”
Sportsmanship Honours
Following the championship, Curling Canada presented its sportsmanship awards—selected by the athletes themselves. Congratulations to Blair Jarvis (Second) from Team Young on receiving this well-deserved honour.
A Week to Remember — Reflections from Team Young
We spoke with third/vice-skip Steve Tersmette, who shared the team’s reflections:
“Playing in a national championship is a dream for any curler. We are so grateful and privileged to represent our province, our hometown of Kimberley, and both the Kimberley and Cranbrook Curling Clubs.
The competition was incredibly tight—every team was capable of winning. We finished the round robin 5–1, but the games were so close that we easily could have been 2–4.
Of the 11 games we played, nine were decided on the last rock of the last end. We were at our best when our backs were against the wall and kept finding ways to win. Ending the week with medals around our necks—let alone gold—was beyond our expectations.
The Granite Curling Club, Curling Canada, organizers, volunteers, officials, and staff put on a flawless event. Thank you to all competitors for their class and support, and to our families, friends, coworkers, and the curling community across B.C.
Thank you to Coach Chris Summers for keeping us grounded and never letting us quit. We couldn’t have done it without him.
