Summer Reflections and Looking Ahead – CEO Message
I hope everyone is having a great summer. For the Curl BC staff, the off season gives us a chance to catch up on our planning for the next season. This includes taking a “deeper dive” into the data we received from all of our clubs. Here’s what we found:
- Curl BC’s 86 clubs had over 25,000 regular curlers participating last season.
- Of these curlers
- 640 are playing at more than one club
- 1,500 were born 2008 or later (school aged)
- 345 are Special Olympians
- Here are the top 10 Clubs in terms of # of regular curlers:
- Vancouver 1,710
- Royal City 1,156
- Victoria 1,149
- Kelowna 1,088
- Comox Valley 878
- Kamloops 782
- Esquimalt 702
- Vernon 633
- Marpole 629
- Langley 614
A big thank you to the staff and volunteers at all 86 facilities that helped us with recording such a large number of curlers this past year.
Thanks to everyone who participated in the Rockslide Camp last month, including the young athletes, coaches, celebrities, volunteers, and host Kelowna Curling Club. The camp saw a great turnout and received lots of positive feedback. We’re already looking forward to hosting it again next summer.
A reminder that registration for the 2026/27 BC Championships opens on September 1. We encourage you to watch for more information on our social media channels and in the next issue of The Curling Connection.
Finally, and most importantly, given the recent news about wildfires across BC, we are thinking of everyone who has been affected and hope everyone in the curling community stays safe throughout the summer.
