Scottish Friendship Tour Supports KidSport BC and Youth Curling
When the 2025 Friendship Tour of 24 Scottish female curlers visits B.C. this November, they will continue a longstanding tradition of giving back to the communities they visit, by raising funds for a charity in Scotland and a charity in Canada.
Thanks to discussions between the tour organizers, Curl BC, and Sport BC, the Canadian proceeds will be directed to KidSport BC, with funds earmarked specifically to help kids participate in curling.
How the Fundraiser Works
As part of the tour, the Scottish Ladies host a fun curling game at each club. Curlers are encouraged to have $5 available to participate. The funds raised will be shared equally between a charity in Scotland and one in Canada. Curl BC and Sport BC have agreed that KidSport BC will be the Canadian beneficiary.
Why KidSport?
KidSport is a program operated by Sport BC that provides funding for children 18 and under from families facing financial barriers. Families can apply for up to $400 per child per year, with funds sent directly to local sport clubs to cover registration fees. To be eligible, participants must register with a local club affiliated with a provincial sport organization—in this case, Curl BC member clubs.
The impact is already being felt. Last year, 11 kids across B.C. received KidSport grants totaling $1,743 to play curling in communities including Kamloops, Port Alberni, Vancouver, Williams Lake, Chilliwack, and Kimberley. Demand for curling grants is growing, and the additional support from the Friendship Tour will help even more kids get onto the ice.
Dedicated Support for Curling
Funds raised through the Friendship Tour will go to the KidSport BC office, which will then distribute them either through local KidSport chapters or the provincial fund (which supports kids in communities without a local chapter). Importantly, these funds will be dedicated to curling grants only, ensuring they directly benefit youth curlers.
Curl BC is excited to see this international tradition of friendship and generosity open new doors for B.C. youth to experience the sport of curling.
