Mission Granite Curling Club Completes Facility Upgrades Ahead of New Season

The Mission Granite Curling Club has completed a series of upgrades to the curling rink at the Mission Leisure Centre in preparation for the upcoming season.

The City of Mission led the infrastructure improvements, addressing issues with the aging rink floor, which was more than 40 years old. Work included the removal and replacement of the concrete floor, installation of a new subfloor cooling system, and the addition of a modern chiller to support improved reliability and efficiency. The prime contractor was Alfre Horie Construction Ltd.

The curling club also undertook its own facility enhancements, refurbishing its curling rocks and replacing single-use painted ice lines with a reusable vinyl curling rink liner. The new liner is designed to last over 30 years and supports the club’s goals around sustainability and energy efficiency.

“With refurbished rocks and a refreshed look, we’re ready to welcome curlers of all ages and skill levels back to the rink this season. We’re excited to continue to grow our membership by introducing new curlers to the sport,” said club president Jason Hnatiuk.

Founded in 1954, the Mission Granite Curling Club has more than 200 members and offers a range of leagues for adults, seniors, and youth. The club also provides instruction for children aged 5 to 12 and operates a dedicated learning league for new curlers.
