Curl BC is proud to announce that Jamie Miller and Matthew Reynolds have been selected as the 2025/26 scholarship recipients.

A large number of impressive applications were reviewed by the Curl BC Awards and Recognitions Committee for both the PCMCA Scholarship and the Gordon Hooey Memorial Scholarship, highlighting the depth of talent and commitment among young curlers in British Columbia.

Jamie Miller – PCMCA Scholarship Recipient

Jamie Miller has been awarded the 2025/26 PCMCA Scholarship, presented by the Pacific Coast Masters Curling Association.

Jamie shared:

“I am incredibly honoured and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the 2025–26 PCMCA Scholarship. Thank you Pacific Coast Masters Curling Association and the Curl BC Awards Committee, for recognizing my dedication to curling, academics, and community involvement.

This fall, I will begin my studies at the University of Victoria’s Gustavson School of Business. I look forward to challenging myself academically and for the opportunity to curl for the UVic team. I am especially looking forward to a term abroad, hopefully in a country where curling is a major part of the culture, to combine my academic interests with my love of curling.

I would like to thank my Youth Coaches, Rachelle Perry and Ken Whitehead, who have been my coaches for the past 6 years, the executive at the Esquimalt Curling Club who urged me to get my Club Coaching certificate and to broaden my curling skillset, and my family for their countless hours of driving me to and from the clubs and watching me grow as an athlete.

Thank you again for your generosity and support.”

Jamie’s dedication both on and off the ice reflects the spirit of the PCMCA Scholarship.

Matthew Reynolds – Gordon Hooey Memorial Scholarship Recipient

Matthew Reynolds has been selected as the recipient of the 2025/26 Gordon Hooey Memorial Scholarship, which recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate excellence in curling, academics, and community involvement.

Matthew shared:

“I am incredibly honoured to have been selected by the Curl BC Awards and Recognition Committee to receive the 2025–26 Gordon Hooey Memorial Scholarship.

From the moment I first stepped on the ice at the Comox Valley Curling Club at the age of 7, I was hooked — I couldn’t get enough of this amazing game! Moving from Vancouver Island to the East Kootenays during the Covid-19 epidemic interrupted my curling development with the closure of clubs and the shutdown of programs. However, with the passing of Covid I was the first one at the door when the Kimberley and Cranbrook clubs re-opened their doors.

When the doors re-opened it took awhile for the curlers in my cohort to come back to the sport — but come back they did. The competition and camaraderie at this year’s BC U-18 Provincial Championships and later at the U-18 Curling Canada National Championships was exhilarating.

I am excited to be named the Gordon Hooey Memorial Scholarship recipient as it brings together two very important parts of my life — aviation and curling. Next fall, with assistance from the Scholarship, I will begin my studies at Mount Royal University in the Bachelor of Aviation Management Program. At the same time I also look forward to joining a new curling community in Calgary and continuing my competitive curling journey at the U-20 level and beyond.

I could not have made this journey on my own. It takes a whole curling community to ice a competitive curler. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my sincerest thanks first and foremost to my family, who happily drove me to the rink all of those cold wintery nights; to all of my coaches along the way; and to the curling community which offered me both comradeship and the opportunity to become a certified Club Curling Coach, enabling me to share my knowledge and love of this game with new curlers.

I would also like to thank Curl BC which brought me into its High Performance Program and supported me throughout the journey. Finally, I would like to extend my appreciation to the Gordon Hooey Scholarship Fund, administered by the Victoria Foundation and the Curl BC Scholarship Selection Committee for choosing me as this year’s recipient.”

Curl BC congratulates both Jamie and Matthew on their outstanding achievements and wishes them continued success in their academic and curling journeys. 🥌📚
