A few months ago, B.C. curler Brook Aleksic’s life changed overnight. What was first thought to be transverse myelitis was later diagnosed as an extremely rare spinal stroke—something that accounts for just 1% of all strokes and is almost unheard of in someone so young.
At the time, Brook was thriving: excelling at UVIC, celebrating the premiere of Curl Power (a documentary about her curling team), and spending her summer working at a Saskatchewan golf course. Then, without warning, she lost all movement and sensation from the chest down.
Brook is now in Vancouver beginning long-term rehabilitation. While there is hope for recovery, the road ahead will be long, uncertain, and expensive.
💙 To ease the pressure, Brook’s family launched a GoFundMe so they can focus on healing, not hardship:
Your donation will help fund:
- Medical care & rehab – ongoing treatment, therapy, and hospital expenses
- Equipment & accessibility – wheelchairs, adaptive gear, and home modifications
- Daily support – essential care as Brook adjusts to her new reality
Brook’s mother, Shannon, will handle the withdrawal of funds from GoFundMe.

Yesterday, Team Jaeger posted a video on Instagram pledging to donate 10% of their winnings this season to support Brook.
Now, Team Jaeger is challenging other B.C. teams to do the same.
👉 Make a pledge with your team, share it on social media, tag @CurlBC, and we’ll help spread the word!
Together, we can show Brook she is not alone in this fight.
