Help BC Curlers Go Further Through Project 88

, ,

A new curling season brings new goals and opportunities for athletes across British Columbia.

For curlers pursuing provincial and national competitions, training, coaching, travel and competition can come with significant costs.

Through Project 88, donations to the BC Amateur Sport Fund (BCASF) help support Curl BC’s Athlete Development Fund, which provides financial assistance to BC curling athletes as they develop their skills and pursue competitive opportunities.

Supporting athletes on their journey

Curl BC is committed to supporting the development of curling and curlers throughout British Columbia. The Athlete Development Fund helps consolidate financial support for athletes, with funding used to help cover training costs within the long-term athlete development model and assist athletes participating in national and international events.

For athletes, this support can help make opportunities more accessible as they work toward their competitive goals.

And for the sport as a whole, investing in athletes helps strengthen the future of curling in BC.

Express your preference for a specific team

Project 88 also provides donors with an opportunity to indicate their preference for their gift to benefit a specific curling team.

If you would like to express a preference for a particular team, follow these steps when completing the Project 88 donation form:

  1. Visit the Project 88 donation page.
  2. Check the box that says “Make this donation in support of a curling team.”
  3. Enter the team name in the Honoree field.
  4. Complete your donation.

By entering the team name in the Honoree field, the BC Amateur Sport Fund will take your preference into consideration, in accordance with its policies and charitable requirements, when directing support through Project 88.

Team Spotlight: Team Smithies

Project 88 helped Team Smithies prepare for the 2026 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship, where they represented British Columbia.

The funds helped cover practice ice, transportation in Montreal, including an adapted van with a ramp, airport parking, accommodations and food and beverages.

The team chose Project 88 in part because the availability of charitable tax receipts gave some donors an added incentive to contribute and provided credibility to their fundraising efforts.

“We are so grateful for their support of our team and giving us the financial backing that allowed us to compete at the Canadian Championships in Montreal.”

Team Smithies also encouraged other teams to consider Project 88 as part of their fundraising strategy, and research into the preparations needed in order to receive and use the funds.
