From Record Donations to New Facilities – CEO Message
Several amazing stories of support for curling in BC in this issue:
- A record $2.5M was donated to 18 active curling projects through the BC Amateur Sport Fund (BCASF) in 2025! Leading the way were Bruce Buchanan and Linda Wei who donated an incredible $2M to Peace Arch Curling Centre in White Rock for a new ice plant and floor. Please see their wonderful story below.
- The Victoria Curling Club also ran a very successful 2025 campaign through two BCASF projects raising close to $340,000!
- For both Victoria and Peace Arch, being able to utilize the BCASF to provide tax receipts to donors, particularly those who want to donate securities, is a key success factor.
- If your club is interested in establishing a BCASF project, please review the materials at the following link, sportbc.com/bcamateursportfund/create-a-legacy/, and then give me a call at 604-333-3621. Curl BC would like to establish at least 10 more BCASF curling centre projects by 2030!
- The City of Kamloops has officially announced they will build a new curling centre as part of a multi-sport facility beginning in 2030. Please see the story below for more information on the multi-year, multi-phase and visionary “Build Kamloops” initiative. This outstanding municipal government contribution to sport and the arts is to be highly commended and hopefully emulated.

The Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be an amazing promotion of curling and wheelchair curling over the next 5 weeks. If you live in the Greater Vancouver area, there is an opportunity to volunteer for the Olympics’ activation being held at CF Richmond Centre, 6551 Number 3 Road, from Feb 6-22. With regard to Championships:
- A big thank you to all the host curling centres and their volunteer committees who have hosted BC Championships or qualifying events so far this season.
- The BC Masters (Parksville), Stick (Prince George) and Seniors (Penticton) Championships and the BC Winter Games (Trail-Rossland) are being held this month.
- Thank you to Team Reese-Hansen for representing BC so well at the 2026 Scotties (Mississauga).
- Good luck to Team Tanaka at the 2026 Brier (St. John’s) beginning February 27.
