July’s Club of the Month – Lillooet Memorial Curling Club
Our club of the month in July is…..the Lillooet Memorial Curling Club!
Our Member Services Manager, Kim Dennis recently visited the club to learn about their inspiring comeback story.
The club opened in 1960 and soon became a popular place for curlers and non-curlers to come and socialize. The Lillooet Curling Club building is two floors, the first floor is the curling rink and the second floor is the Legion. The club’s biggest event of the season is their April Fools bonspiel, where they curl with a fun and new theme each year. Lillooet CC does a great job promoting curling, especially for those that are new to the sport and is the definition of a community curling club.
After being closed in 2020 due to COVID-19 and necessary facility upgrades, a dedicated group of volunteers and funders made it possible for the club to reopen in 2023 for a short season.
They also celebrated the success of their year-end April Fools Bonspiel, which raises funds for the following season by recruiting teams from surrounding communities, building friendships, promoting fun, and giving any skill level a chance to win.
Additionally, the club has formed a new partnership with the local legion, ensuring that both organizations can continue to serve their community. Their efforts and commitment have breathed new life into the club, marking a promising return to the curling community.
