Curl BC Annual Awards are intended to recognize and honour individuals, teams, volunteers, organizations, and businesses for their outstanding contribution to the sport of curling in British Columbia.
We encourage all members to submit nominations for Annual Awards. The deadline annually is April 30th.

Annual Service Awards
Curling Centre Volunteer of the Year Award
To recognize the outstanding contribution of an individual club member to his or her curling club that sets him or her apart from all other volunteers at the club level around the province; must clearly represent exceptional service to the club. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.
Ron Houston Administrator of the Year Award
This award was established in June 2016 in order to recognize contributions to curling in general, the growth of curling in our province, or advancements or innovations to curling by a person who receives remuneration for the work that they do in curling (for example Club Manager, Ice Technician, or Association employee).
Sponsor Award
The Sponsor Award is presented to recognize the generosity of a sponsor towards curling in BC. Sponsorship must be for an event or program recognized by Curl BC and may be for a single event, series of events, a program or for continuous sponsorship over a number of years
Curling Centre of the Year
This award is presented to a member facility that has generously contributed to the sport of curling through hosting multiple competitions or events, in the current or previous years; Developed or operated outstanding curling programs; Demonstrated support for teams that experienced success at the provincial, national, or international level.
Long & Exceptional Service Awards
Janette Robbins Builder Award and Sport BC President’s Award
To an individual who represents the spirit of volunteerism and whose outstanding dedication energy and commitment is critical to curling development and the advancement of curling in BC, and who has set an example of service for other volunteers. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.
Elsie McKenzie Youth & Junior Curling Program Volunteer Award
The Elsie McKenzie Award is presented to an individual who has given extended and dedicated service to the youth and junior curling programs within a club, region or the province. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.
Pat Kennedy Long Service Volunteer Award
To a volunteer who has served curling in BC in an outstanding capacity over a number of years; must include service at the regional and/or provincial level as the primary considerations. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.
Judie Roberts Friendship Award
Judie Roberts was a true friend of curling. The Life Member of Curl BC freely volunteered her time in various capacities in various communities in BC for more than 30 years. Named in her honour in 2017, the Judie Roberts Friendship Award is presented to a person or organization that has performed exceptional service to benefit curling in BC. The recipient is a friend to the sport of curling in any capacity and may or may not be a member of a Curl BC partnership group.
Performance Awards
Team of the Year
Team accomplishments are limited to Curl BC recognized events in the current curling season including provincial, national, and international levels
Anita Cochrane Coach of the Year Award
This award is named in memory of Anita Cochrane. The Anita Cochrane Coach of the Year Award recognizes the accomplishments of some of the best coaches in BC.The nominee’s accomplishments must be achieved in Curl BC recognized events or programs, and in coaching teams or in coaching other coaches.The nominee’s accomplishments may also include contributions to coaching programs and coach development. Nominees must be a minimum of NCCP competition coach trained or Level 2 certified. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.
Wally M'Lot Official of the Year Award
The Wally M’Lot Umpire/Official of the Year Award recognizes the accomplishments of our curling umpires and officials in BC. The nominee’s accomplishments must be achieved in Curl BC recognized events or programs, and in officiating at events or in exceptional contributions to officiating programs and the development of curling officials. Nominees must have a minimum of Level 2 officiating certification. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.

May be awarded to a team of any age, gender or competition category; accomplishments are limited to those achieved in the previous season and must be in events recognized by Curl BC; team must have competed at the national or international level or have shown outstanding achievement at the provincial level; endorsement by the Performance Committee and Provincial Coach will be sought prior to consideration. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.

Master Athlete/Master Team of the Year:
May be awarded to a male or female individual master curler or a master team (60+ years of age); accomplishments are limited to those achieved in the previous season and must be in events recognized by Curl BC; team must have competed at the national or international level or have shown outstanding achievement at the provincial level; endorsement by the Performance Committee and Provincial Coach will be sought prior to consideration. Any individual who is not immediate family of the person being nominated may submit a nomination.

Club Customer Service Award:
Awarded to a member facility that has demonstrated outstanding service to its members, commercial leagues or a recognized Curl BC partner by providing customer service that sets it apart from other clubs over the past year or over multiple years; and/or has demonstrated exceptional growth in membership or active curlers in the previous years or over multiple years through innovative development or customer service programs.

Association Volunteer Award:
This award, for PCCA, BCLCA and BCICA volunteers, is no longer given out following the amalgamation to create the new Curl BC in August 2004. It recognized achievements or contributions in previous curling seasons that set the individual apart from others.
