Curl BC Statement on upcoming championship qualifying events and road closures
Due to the essential road travel restrictions in place, and with a forecast of additional atmospheric rivers in the Southern part of the province, Curl BC has made the difficult decision to cancel the Open Qualifier for the 2022 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, Presented by Best Western, previously scheduled for December 10th-12th, 2021, and go to a ten-team open championship format. Whether teams are planning to qualify via the CTRS, BCCT or Open Qualifier process, they must be registered here by the category specific deadline of December 5th, 2021.
There is also concern for the five 2022 BC Men’s Curling Championship zone qualifying events currently scheduled for December 10 – 12th, 2021, due to current road restrictions. We feel it is unreasonable to ask or expect men’s competitors to drive to their respective competition or book flights on this short notice when teams can be comprised of members from different geographical areas/zones. Therefore, Curl BC will be cancelling the five inter-zone qualifiers on December 10th-12th, 2021 and going to a sixteen-team open championship. Teams are reminded that they must register below for the appropriate men’s category of event based on where their team members reside by the registration deadline of December 5th in order to be eligible for the CTRS, BCCT berths or qualification process
If a qualifying event is needed for either the men’s or the women’s side of the championships, it will take place in the city of Kamloops on January 2-3, 2022
A reminder that teams must be registered for the Men’s or Women’s BCCT to be eligible for the CTRS or BCCT berths.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but extreme weather and the resulting road restrictions have completely changed travel throughout the province. Please bear with us while we try to make this process as fair and efficient as possible under these difficult circumstances.
