Officials Advisory Committee
Curl BC 2024-25 Officials Advisory Committee members:

Type: The Officials Advisory committee composed of key stakeholders to enhance Curl BC’s delivery of Officiating throughout the province.
Purpose: The purpose of the Officials Advisory committee is to evaluate and enhance the education, mentorship, participation, and development of Officials at all levels of competition and to support Officials across BC.
Responsibilities: The Officials Advisory committee will evaluate and recommend changes each year for educational sessions (online and in-person), manual revisions, forms, online resources, rule updates, and policy recommendations for Curl BC approval. Committee members will represent Curl BC in a supportive and professional manner at all times. The committee with be responsible for the following:
- To advise on any amendments, rule changes, clarification and offer support for the development of the Competitor Guide for BC Championships
- Look at resources/forms being used and revise if necessary
- Review and make recommended changes to Chief Umpire Manual
- Work with Curl BC on updating the Officials Database
- Provide support and expertise on development of Provincial Courses online/in-person
- Support growth and development of the official’s mentorship program
- Other needs that may occur throughout the year.
Authority: This committee is an advisory operational committee which provides recommendations to the Curl BC. Staff will provide information to the Curl BC Board of Directors.
Composition: The committee will consist of a wide range of individuals with curling and officiating knowledge and expertise.

There will be a 1-year commitment for all members on the committee but you may resign from the committee with written notice at any time. The committee can appoint committee members at any time to fill vacant roles for the remainder of the term.
Process: The process for establishing the Officials Advisory Committees each year is as follows:
- Potential members will fill out an expression of interest to participate by May 15th
- Expression of interest applications will be reviewed and committee will be announced by June 1st
Meetings Framework:
- Meetings will occur every quarter with two meetings held in spring. There may be a need to call additional meetings, if required.
- Agendas will be prepared by the Chair and minutes will be distributed via email.
- The committee will communicate via email between meetings.
- Meetings Structure:
- First Quarter meeting – June (after AGM) form committee, introductions, purpose of committee, establish plan for upcoming year, course needs based on host sites for championships. Webinar plans.
- Second Quarter meeting- August/September touch base before season begins, courses and mentorship, playdowns, officials’ assignments, document review and preparation.
- Third Quarter meeting – only if required; event peak season
- Fourth Quarter meeting(s) – March/April season wrap up, what do we need to change, surveys, recommendations and feedback, create plan for next season.

Competitions Committee
Type: The competition committee is an advisory committee composed of key stakeholders to enhance Curl BC’s delivery of competitions.
Purpose: The purpose of the competitions committee is to evaluate and enhance the participation, structure and development of competitive opportunities for curlers at all levels of competition and to support participation growth across the BC.
Responsibilities: include the following below, but are not limited to other needs that may occur throughout the year. The competitions committee will evaluate and recommend changes each year for event hosting, technical guidelines, rule updates, and policies for Curl BC approval. Committee members will represent Curl BC in a supportive and professional manner at all times and follow the Curl BC Code of Conduct.
- To advise on rule changes and offer support for the development of the Competition Guide and all BC Championships
- Provide suggestions and recommendations for hosting sites for championships
- Review championship surveys and offer expertise on any changes or suggestions for championships
- Provide advice of what formats should be considered for competitions based on the number of teams
- Advise on ranking/seeding formats for competitions

Composition: The committee will consist of a wide range of individuals with curling knowledge and expertise.

- 2 Co-Chairs – Curl BC Competition staff
- 1 High Performance rep. – Curl BC HP Director
- 1 Curl BC Board member – appointed by the Curl BC Chair along with an alternate
- 2 Adult athletes – (1 male and 1 female)
- 1 Youth athlete
- 1 Coach – Coach Development Coordinator
- 1 Official – Provincial Officiating Coordinator
