A message from Curl BC’s new competitions manager, Bruce Renwick
To my fellow Curlers and Curling Centers of British Columbia,
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bruce Renwick. I have had the recent pleasure of being hired as the new Competitions Manager for Curl BC.
One of my goals is to build on the successful direction that my predecessor, Will Sutton, began four years ago.
I started curling in 1972 as those early morning hockey practices started to lose their lustre for me. I curled competitively at the BC High School level, Juniors, Men’s and Mixed competitions. I also helped guide my daughter through her Junior curling endeavors by becoming a competition certified coach.
I have been managing the Chilliwack Curling Club for the past 27 years, guiding the Club from a 1950s-style rink into the recently opened state-of-the-art facility known as the Chilliwack Curling and Community Center.
I hope to bring a fresh direction and perspective to competitions at Curl BC, with the view that the competitive curler and the clubs that host the events are our customers and we need to serve them to the best of our ability.
At Curl BC, we are listening. Feedback from a recently held town hall meeting with BC men’s and women’s championship curlers will help us strive to ensure the competition process is presented in a professional and timely manner. We will be looking to include the other competitive curlers and juniors in future Townhall meetings once the last seasons survey’s and other information are reviewed.
Curl BC is in the midst of forming a competitive curling committee comprised of staff, curlers, coaches and officials from around the province to better collaborate on these efforts. Currently, we are seeking two athletes from our competitive pool to join this committee. If you are interested, we invite you to email mksoligo@curlbc.ca on or before July 4, 2023 indicating that you would like to be part of the team.
I look forward to working with the staff at Curl BC, curlers, and clubs to create an atmosphere of collaboration and efficiency with the benefit of growing curling throughout British Columbia.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me directly at brenwick@curlbc.ca.
Enjoy the summer and I hope to see you on the ice soon,
Bruce Renwick
