Curl BC Officiating Coordinator: Dianne Barker
Curl BC offers two levels of officiating courses to train officials for regional and provincial events. Each level consists of a six-hour course and a practical component working for six games under a certified level 3 head official at a fully officiated event. (Note – levels 4 and 5 are a part of the national CCA program.)
Fees for level 1 and level 2 courses are $35
In order to become a certified level 1 or 2 official, an interested participant needs to take a one-day officiating course and then work at a fully officiated event under a certified level 3 official (or higher) for the required six games. This commitment is required for both levels. Officials interested in proceeding past level 2 can obtain the criteria and procedures from the officiating coordinator.
Each year, Curl BC organizes level 1 and level 2 officiating courses at the sites of some regional and most provincial championships. Officiating courses are usually offered anywhere from two months to just prior to the championship. Please look to the British Columbia Curling Yearbook for the dates and locations of B.C. events.
Courses can be requested by a host committee based on the officiating requirements presented by the curling association in charge of the event, the availability of trained officials in the community, and the needs of the committee.
