Head Ice Technician Comox Valley Curling Club
Full Time Position: September 1, 2012 – April 30, 2013
Start Date: September 1, 2012
CVCC is an active six sheet facility, with approximately 500 members, including a busy Junior through Senior league schedule. The Comox Valley Curling club hosts several club bonspiels as well as outside ice rentals and provincial level playdowns.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installation and maintenance of six (6) sheets of curling ice, to the CCA standards
- Maintain appropriate daily log books
- Carry out all duties as referred to in the Terms of Reference
- Remove the ice and safely store all rocks and ice equipment
- Supervision of ice assistants
- Excellent communication skills
- Reports to the Club Manager and Central Executive
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Level 2 Ice Technician Coursework or equivalent
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- WHMIS
- Level 1 First Aid

Marpole Curling Club – Club Manager
The Marpole Curling Club is the friendly home of curling in South Vancouver, with six sheets of championship quality curling ice and over 650 regular curlers. With a main goal to serve our local community, we have an active and growing membership base, an updated facility with lounge, restaurant, and banquet/meeting rooms. We also boast a handicapped elevator and front entranceway ramp providing full accessibility to our community. Our ice facilities feature updated ice plant equipment and a concrete ice surface floor. In addition to our diverse regular curler groups, we service the needs of many casual and corporate rental groups and we offer learn–to-curl sessions for new curlers. Our goal is to be the best recreational curling facility in the Lower Mainland.

SCOPE: The Marpole Curling Club is looking for an experienced, energetic, motivated individual to fill a key position of Club Manager for our club. Reporting to the Board of Directors, this individual must have strong leadership, marketing, sales and promotional skills coupled with previous managerial experience, preferably in a recreational environment. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the club operations, including liquor and food services and rental activities. Experience in and/or knowledge of curling would be an asset but is not required. Specific requirements and duties include:
Key Requirements:
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Successful sales and/or marketing track record.
- Proven ability to manage staff
- Basic cash handling, bookkeeping and budgeting skills and working knowledge of financial reports
- Good understanding of recreational facility operations
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage operation of a busy 6-sheet curling club in Vancouver, BC
- Management of curling facilities, working closely with the Head Ice Technician.
- Management of club restaurant and banquet facilities including restaurant staff.
- Management of lounge facilities including bar staff.
- Ensure that day to day operations are in concert with the Marpole Curling Club strategic goals.
- Present a professional and positive public image of the Marpole Curling Club.

CURL BC MASTER LEARNING FACILITATOR (Coach Development Coordinator)
The Master Learning Facilitator (MLF) is selected based on his or her level of certification and performance assessment. To be considered for an MLF assignment, the applicant must have a minimum Level 3 Coaching Certification (current NCCP).
The MLF position is a one-year term, beginning June 15 each year, and is renewable upon the recommendation of the Executive and the approval of the Curl BC Executive Committee. The MLF reports to the Executive Director. MLF duties and responsibilities are carried out in liaison with the Curl BC Special Project Coordinator.
As New National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) responsibilities evolve, the MLF will undertake the necessary training and assume the evolving responsibilities. During the transition to the New NCCP, the MLF will register for all appropriate training.
The incumbent is required to submit a formal re-application each term, following an annual performance review with the Executive Director.
He or she:
- Provides delivery of all NCCP Community Coach and Competition Coach modules.
- Attends the CCA Technical Meetings as required and provides a written report to the Curl BC office, highlighting any changes to NCCP new program delivery elements.
- Oversees the training and development of Learning Facilitators in the Province, including identification of new LFs and evaluation of their performance
- Delivers the pertinent technical material from the CCA Technical Meetings at the Learning Facilitator training workshop.
- Participates in the development of New NCCP material, both provincially and nationally

CURL BC PROVINCIAL ICE TECHNICIAN
The Provincial Ice Technician is selected based on his or her level of certification and interest in the program. The term of appointment for the Provincial Ice Technician will be one year, beginning June 15, renewable annually upon the recommendation of the Executive Director.
The Provincial Ice Technician reports to the Curl BC Executive Director and liaises with the High Performance & Competitions Manager.
The Provincial Ice Technician should be certified at least a Level 3 Ice Technician. He or she:
- works with the High Performance & Competitions Manager and the ice technician course conductors to plan the annual BC Ice Technician training program and to select course locations, dates, and instructors
- is responsible for evaluating applicants to take Ice Technician’s courses and challenge exams
- reviews recommendations for course content and delivery, and designs new material as needed
- is prepared to instruct at ice making courses and seminars and mark Level 1 and 2 exams
- is responsible for ensuring manuals, certificates, and other supplies are made available for the participants in Ice Technician courses in cooperation with the High Performance & Competitions Manager
- provides consultations by telephone or email or on-site assistance as required to clubs affiliated with Curl BC
- updates Curl BC on ice making issues and concerns, and makes recommendations to improve the program
- establishes and updates guidelines for ice making at events
- works in conjunction with the RFABC and BCRPA or other organizations to improve the training of ice makers in BC, and with the CCA to get information on current techniques

CURL BC PROVINCIAL HEAD STATISTICIAN
The Provincial Head Statistician shall be selected based on his or her level of experience and interest in the CCA Statistics Program used by Curl BC at provincial and other televised competitions. The position shall be a one-year term beginning June 15th of each year, and, on the recommendation of the Provincial Officiating Coordinator and the agreement of the Curl BC Executive Director, shall be renewable. The Provincial Head Statistician shall report to the Curl BC Executive Director and liaise with the High Performance & Competitions Manager.
The Provincial Head Statistician shall
- Manage the statisticians development programs in BC, developing a plan for delivery of all courses
- Assist the Board in developing policies regarding course conductor selection and training
- Receive, review and maintain evaluations on all statisticians
- Prepare an annual budget for all course activity for approval
- Organize dates and locations for courses each year with the High Performance & Competitions Manager
- Work with the High Performance & Competitions Manager to maintain a database of statisticians and annually check a copy of the database to maintain accuracy
- Liaise with the Host Committees and the Curl BC office to determine which statisticians are to be assigned events
- Encourage statisticians to upgrade their levels of experience and to seek certification once requirements are developed and approved by the CCA
- Ensure that a current version of the statistics program is available for statisticians’ laptops
- Maintain an archive of all events at which the statistics program was in use.

CURL BC PROVINCIAL OFFICIATING COORDINATOR
The Provincial Officiating Coordinator will be selected based on his or her level of certification and interest in the program. The position is a one-year term, beginning June 15 each year, and is renewable upon the recommendation of the Executive Director. The Provincial Officiating Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and liaises with the High Performance & Competitions Manager. The minimum certification required is Level 3.
The Provincial Officiating Coordinator
- manages the officials and timers development programs in BC, developing a plan for all courses
- receives, reviews, and maintains evaluation on Supervisors and Chief Umpires
- organizes dates and locations for course each year, with the High Performance & Competitions Manager
- assigns instructors for all courses
- works with the High Performance & Competitions Manager to maintain a database of certified officials and checks a copy of the database yearly to maintain accuracy
- liaises with the High Performance & Competitions Manager to determine which officials are to be assigned to provincial events
- encourages officials to upgrade their certification in accordance with Curl BC policy
- advises all provincial officials of any changes to CCA rules or rule interpretations
- sits as a non-voting member of the Performance Committee
- provides assistance to committees to ensure rules are up to date
