Curling garb from past decades for commemorative photo

Historic sweaters, tams, pins and polyester pants were the order of the day on Saturday, October 13, as members of the Vancouver Curling Club donned curling garb from the last 10 decades to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the club.

The club celebrated 100 years of curling in Vancouver with an anniversary weekend of events with a dinner on October 12 and a one-day bonspiel on October 13.

Scott Allen, the club’s President, said everyone involved had enjoyed the celebrations.

He said: “Our organizing committee did a wonderful job. The banquet was well received by everyone who attended and had a great feel to it.

“The bonspiel showcased the decades of the Club and our membership diversity as we had a real mix of people involved, from junior curlers to the seniors in their 80s and everyone in between.”

Established in 1912, the VCC has had three locations before settling into its new home in 2011 at Hillcrest Centre — the facility that hosted the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic curling competitions.
