Call for more teams for Westcoast Curling Classic
There is still a chance to enter your team in the Westcoast Curling Classic.
Organizers of the 2012 event are hoping that six more teams will join the 18 men’s teams that have already signed up.
Brent Pierce, one of the organizers for the October event, held at the Royal City Curling Club in New Westminster, said there was a chance they might have to cancel the event if more people didn’t get involved.
He said: “We need to have 24 teams to make this event work and at present we sit at 18 teams and have for some time now.”
He asked for anyone with any interest in joining the event, which is offering $64,000 in cash prizes, to contact him as soon as possible.
”The last thing we want is to cancel the event,” he said.
The event is due to take place from October 4 to 8, at the Royal City Curling Club, East 6th Avenue, New Westminister.
The Westcoast Curling Classic is sanctioned by the World Curling Tour (WCT), and is listed as part of the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) and is a qualifying event of the Canada Cup.
The 2012 WCC is designed to feature 24 men’s teams competing for a total purse of $64,000. The event format is a triple knockout with 8 end games under the four-rock rule.
In 2012, for the first time. 8 Junior teams will have the opportunity to be included in the event and play against similarly skilled Junior teams. The Juniors will gain valuable experience and get exposure to being part of a top flight competition.
