2012 Curl BC award recipients

Curl BC is pleased to announce the Curl BC award recipients for the 2011/2012 season. Nominations were received from Curl BC members across the province and winners were selected by the Curl BC Awards & Recognition Committee.

Recipients will receive their awards at the Curl BC Annual General Meeting at the Richmond Curling Club at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 9, 2012. Media representatives are invited to attend these presentations. Lunch will be provided at 12:00pm.

Calling all Female Coaches to the 2012 BC Summer Games!

Applications are now being accepted for the Coach Mentor Apprentice Program.
Application deadline: May 31st, 2012

The Coaching Mentor/ Apprenticeship Program (for female apprentices) is a partnership between ProMOTION Plus, Coaches BC and the BC Games Society. The program was developed to assist and support female coaches in their pursuit of higher levels of coaching certification. This program is designed to assist and support them as they enhance and develop their coaching skills.

Goals:

  • The program will pair experienced coaches with female apprentices (a maximum of 10 mentor and 10 female apprentice coaches will be selected to attend the 2012 BC Summer Games in Surrey).
  • To increase the number of qualified coaches starting at the club and provincial level and moving toward the national and international level. More »

Brower & Goodwin win The Dominion Curling Club Championships

Congratulations to this year’s winners of The Dominion Curling Club Championships held in Richmond this past weekend.

Brower & Goodwin now advance to the The Dominion Canadian Curling Club Championships in in Scarborough, Ontario from November 19-24, 2012.

Fredericton to stage 2013 World Mixed Doubles & World Sr. Curling Championships

FREDERICTON, New Brunswick, April 23… The World Curling Federation (WCF) and the Canadian Curling Association (CCA) today announced that the City of Fredericton will host the 2013 World Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships and World Mixed Doubles.

All three world championships will take place at the new Grant-Harvey Centre, April 13-20, 2013. Approximately 30 teams are expected to compete for global honours in Mixed Doubles while almost 40 teams will seek to capture Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s world titles.

The $29.5 million Grant-Harvey Centre, scheduled to open in June, has two ice surfaces which will be utilized during the week…one Olympic-size (500 seats) and one National Hockey League-size (1,500 seats). The host committee executive director is 2000 Brier runner-up Wayne Tallon, with both the Fredericton Curling Club and Capital Winter Club acting as co-chairs and host clubs.

World Curling Federation President Kate Caithness said, “We are delighted to be returning to New Brunswick for two events which will run side by side in 2013 – the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship and the World Senior Curling Championships. More »
