High Performance Program accepting applications for next season

The Curl BC High Performance Program is now accepting applications for next season. Please read below for more details.

MISSION:
To better prepare all B.C. teams for national championships and to provide these teams resources so that they can place more consistently in the top 4 ranking at national championships. The Curl BC resources will focus on all athletes identified in the program in adult, junior, juvenile and wheelchair categories, however the program is open to all athletes.

GOAL:
Our goal as Provincial and Regional Coaches, is to have impact on our BC teams and assist them in advancing their level of development.

Our goal is to increase the number of top 4 finishes in the junior category (male and female) from 6 (over the past 10 years) to 9 over the next 10 years, representing a 50% increase).

Our goal is to increase the number of top 4 finishes in the adult category (male and female) from 8 (over the past 10 years) to 9 over the next 10 years, representing a 13% increase).

PHILOSOPHY:
The Curl BC High Performance Program serves athletes in the juvenile, junior, men and women performance categories. It is also the intent of the program to ensure BC wheelchair athletes maintain their status on the podium at national championships.

The method to develop a consistent stream of capable players into adult national championships is based on the philosophy that the core work should be done primarily with juvenile and junior players to hone their skills at the earliest stages of their development (Long Term Athlete Development Stages –Training to Train, Training to Compete and eventually Training to Win).

Focusing resources on the younger age groups will ensure a steady stream of elite-level players into the adult group with expectations of continued future success.

It is the intent of the Curl BC HP Program that the Provincial and Regional coaches develop strong on-going relationships with committed coaches and teams throughout the province. This will enable the sharing of expertise and responsibility for developing elite level junior curlers that will feed the adult competitive stream.

The development of on-going relationships with both young players and their coaches as they grow will enable CurlBC HP coaches to continue to participate meaningfully in the on-going growth and development at the adult level.

PROGRAM:
Eligible athletes will apply for inclusion in the program. Athletes / teams will be grouped on the basis of past performance, the Curl BC ranking list (found on website) and program participation in the past 2 years.
