Field set for 2011 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship
The field is now complete for the 2011 Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Curling Championship presented by Kal-Tire, at the Vernon Curling Club, February 7-13. The final qualifying event took place this past weekend with two interior teams advancing.
Hosted in Prince George, the Canadian Direct Insurance BC Men’s Interior Playoff #2 qualified Tom Buchy (Kimberley) and his rink of Ken McHargue, Dave Toffolo and Darren Will. Buchy opened the event with a 7-4 win over Michael Smith (Kamloops), followed by an 8-5 victory over Brent Giles (Kelowna). In the A-event final, the Kimberley squad defeated Kamloops’ Brent Yamada by a score of 9-8.
Yamada and his team of Corey Sauer, Andrew Barnes and Lance Yamada, dropped their next game to Vernon’s TJ Perepolkin, but battled back through the C-event, defeating Perepolkin twice in two extra-end decisions to take the final provincial berth.
