Wenzek & Gunner advance to Canada Winter Games BC playoff

Both the Daniel Wenzek & Zetteh Gunner teams were victorious this past weekend at the Curl BC Canada Winter Games Backdoor Qualifier event at the Cloverdale Curling Club. Five girls teams and six boys teams competed to advance to the Canada Winter Games BC playoff to be held at the Vernon Curling Club Nov. 5-7.

Armstrong’s Zetteh Gunner, Ashley Nordin, Amy Edwards, Sydney Clement and Coach Bernie Brosseau finished on top of the girls’ side with a 4-1 record, defeating Victoria’s Brandi Tinkler by a score of 7-1 in Sunday final.

Victoria’s Daniel Wenzek, Nolan Reid, Calvin Heels, Max Langlais and Coach Cindy Wenzek rattled of four consecutive wins to take the boys’ crown, with an 8-3 win over Nicholas Meister’s squad from Langley.

Both teams now advance to the Canada Winter Games Qualifier held in Vernon next month. Joining Gunner and Wenzek are medalist teams from last season’s BC Winter Games. Teams will compete to represent BC at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Nova Scotia, February 11-27.
