Team Leader Required for BC Wheelchair Team

Curl BC is seeking applications for the volunteer position of Team Leader for our BC Wheelchair Team at the National Competition in Nova Scotia, March 23-28, 2009.

The successful applicant will be expected to liaise with Provincial Wheelchair Coach Melissa Soligo and the BC team of five curlers as follows:

Before the event – assist or ensure that the team:
• has submitted all needed documents to the CCA and Curl BC offices
• has booked the appropriate travel
• has hotel rooms booked (check in teams by arriving early)
• family members have booked travel and hotels
• coach has prepared a taper plan
• know all doping regulations and have medications approved
• coach has prepared a meal plan
• clothing is arranged with the appropriate cresting
• have prepared for the event (using BC High Performance Pre-competition Plan)
• have consultants in place

At the event – to assist with:
• travel and accommodations issues
• equipment
• clothing (back up)
• medications/first aid kit
• ice and stones, and team scouting (as needed), as agreed to with the Provincial Coach
• meals
• “scouting” the facility for pre and post game work
• food and water for games
• tickets
• speeches
• media liaison
• book physiotherapy/massage as needed

Applicants should have some experience in dealing with the needs of persons with disabilities, especially curlers. The position is not a coaching appointment; it is a managerial appointment, but experience at national events would be desirable. The selected applicant should be prepared to be available to the coach of the team in the weeks leading up to the national event and to arrive in Nova Scotia in advance of the event, if deemed necessary.

The Wheelchair Team Leader will receive compensation for travel and accommodation expenses, a meal allowance and a ticket to the venue from the Curl BC High Performance budget.
